Summer Camp Counselor Jobs

Summer Camp Trip Leader

Trip Leaders are in charge of managing group dynamics, overseeing all aspects of the program, and maintaining safety standards. Leaders are expected to be role models for our students and maintain a high standard of morals, integrity, and judgment. Trips consist of no fewer than three coed staff members and are required to work together as a team for the duration of the trip with little to no time off. Emphasis is placed on teaching students rather than babysitting, requiring staff to have the ability to identify and use “teachable moments” when applicable. In addition, the trip leader is responsible for any medical issues that may arise which requires good judgment and risk management skills.

Ability to coordinate with outfitters, manage resources, motivate students, plan meals, manage risk, and maintain control of the group are essential elements of our trip leaders. Trip leaders will receive field support from program directors and additional camp staff. Additionally, EPIC Adventures summer camp staff tend to have a strong outdoor background and are highly proficient in one or more of the outdoor activity elements of the program.

Dates: June 1st – August 2nd 2015. Must be available for the entire time with with few days off in between trips.

Pay: Based on experience and skill set.

Trip Leader and Assistant Trip Leader Requirements:

  • At least 21 years of age by June 1st, 2015 and in good physical condition.
  • WFR, WFA, or WAFA (WFR preferred. Can be earned or re-certified after hire.)
  • CPR Certified (Can be earned or re-certified after hire.)
  • Previous leadership experience.
  • Strong work ethic with good judgment and decision making skills.
  • Risk management skills with a commitment to safety.
  • Desire to work with teens and/or previous experience working with youth.
  • Clean driving recorded and ability to drive a 15 passenger van.
  • College graduate or working towards a college degree.
  • Positive attitude with the heart of a teacher.
  • Available full time from June 1st – August 2nd 2015.

 

Desired Skills

  • Previous summer camp experience as a camper or leader.
  • Photography and video skills. (Editing and/or shooting.)
  • Inspiring life experience.
  • Adventure travel experience.
  • Charismatic with a “can do” attitude
  • Technical skills.
  • Working towards or achieved a college degree in a related field.
  • Outdoor knowledge of  NC,AK,CO, UT, or TX.
  • Working knowledge of LNT.

Summer Camp Assistant Trip Leader

In addition, assistant trip leaders will coordinate with the trip leader, manage group dynamics, motivate students, and reinforce the efforts of the trip leader.

Dates: June 1st – August 2nd 2015. Must be available for the entire time with with few days off in between trips.

Pay: Based on experience and skill set.

Study Abroad and Service Trip Leaders

International trip leaders are in charge of managing group dynamics, overseeing all aspects of the program, and maintaining safety standards. Leaders are expected to be role models for our students and maintain a high standard of morals, integrity, and judgment.

The trip leader is responsible for any medical issues that may arise and require good judgment and risk management skills to ensure the proper course of action is taken .

Ability to coordinate with partnering organizations, communicate effectively with local population, manage resources, anticipate potential problems, manage risk, and maintain control of the group are essential elements of our trip leaders. Trip leaders will receive limited field support from program directors and additional camp staff. Leaders are expected to lead in a semi-autonomous manner to achieve all goals of the program within the guidelines of EPIC Adventures.  Additionally, EPIC Adventures study abroad and service trip staff tend to have a strong background in international travel, leadership, and outdoor adventure.

Pay: Based on experience and skill set.

Min Requirements for International Service and Study Abroad Trip Leaders:

  • Fluent in local language for appropriate trip.
  • Understanding of local culture and customs.
  • Independent international travel experience.
  • WFA or WFR (can be earned after hire)
  • CPR Certified (can be earned after hire)
  • Good physical and mental condition.
  • Previous leadership experience.
  • Positive attitude with a sense of humor.
  • Ability to manage risk appropriately.
  • College graduate or an upperclassman working towards a degree.

Field Support

EPIC Adventures field support is responsible for supporting the overall goals of the various programs. Duties include gear transfers, photography, shopping, coordinating between staff and outfitters, and logistical support. In addition, field support is on duty 24/7 and maintains contact with program for the duration of the trip and be prepared to join the trip at any moment. Strong photography skills are preferred. 

Dates: June 1st – August 2nd 2015. 

Pay: Based on experience and skill set.

Min Requirements for Field Support:

  • Ability to take quality photos.
  • CPR Certified (can be earned after hire)
  • Basic First Aid certified, WFA is preferred (can be earned after hire)
  • College graduate or  college student working towards a degree.
  • Experience working with youth.
  • Good physical and mental condition.
  • Desire to work with teens.
  • Positive attitude with a sense of humor.
  • Must be punctual and dependable.
  • Clean driving recorded and ability to drive a 15 passenger van.
